Care Instructions
Care For Your Dress Shirts
1) Don’t Wash (Yet)
Air your shirt on a hanger for an instant refresh that extends usage and reduces energy consumption. Choose to air outdoors for an even fresher shirt if possible, indoors if not. For steamer-effect, hang the shirt in the bathroom when you shower.
3) Lower the Temperature
Check the care label — and note that it states the maximum recommended temperature, not the minimum. How dirty is your laundry? Modern machines will get light or moderately soiled garments clean on a lower setting, and the lower the temperature, the more energy you will save.
5) Wash
Unbutton the shirt, turn it inside-out, and pop the collar. Be mindful, use the right amount of detergent based on local water quality. We do not recommend fabric softener.
2) Sort by Color
To maintain color over time, wash white shirts with white, darker shirt with darker garments and use the correct detergent for each. Wash any garments labelled so, for example indigo-dyed shirts, separately the first couple of times to avoid color transfer.
4) Reduce RPM
Set the washing machine to a low spin cycle. Lowering the rpm is more energy efficient, and less stressful on the fabric.
6) Hang Dry
Carefully stretch cuff, collar, and front placket. Do not wring the shirt. Let it dry on a drying rack or hanger. Do not tumble-dry: it is a strain on both your shirts and the environment.
Note: If you prefer to take your shirts to a dry cleaner - we recommend you have then laundered, not dry cleaned and pressed without starch. Starch is abrasive on the fabrics and can cut down the over-all life of the shirt.
Care for your Denim
Read the care label: Always check the care label on the inside of the jeans before washing. The label will provide specific instructions on how to care for the denim.
Wash less often: Premium denim is designed to be worn multiple times before washing. Washing too frequently can cause the color to fade and the denim to lose its shape.
Turn jeans inside out: Turning the jeans inside out will help to prevent fading and preserve the color.
Wash in cold water: Use cold water to wash the denim. Hot water can cause the denim to shrink and fade.
Use a gentle detergent: Choose a mild detergent that is designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners as they can damage the fabric.
Hand wash or use the delicate cycle: If possible, hand wash the denim or use the delicate cycle on your washing machine. This will help to prevent damage to the fabric and preserve the shape.
Air dry: Hang the jeans to air dry rather than using a dryer. The heat from the dryer can cause the denim to shrink and lose its shape.
Avoid ironing: Ironing premium denim can damage the fabric and cause the color to fade. If necessary, use a steamer to remove wrinkles.
Store properly: Store premium denim in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid folding or hanging the jeans in direct sunlight as this can cause the color to fade.
Care for your Suits & Sport Coats
1) Clean Infrequently
Chances are, you are cleaning your suits too often. We reccommend dry-cleaing suits annually (or bi-annually at most) or if you sweat in them. Our fabrics are natural and don’t retain odors. If you have a stain, have your items spot cleaned. Dry cleaning, even at better cleaners, is abrasive on clothing and will shorten the life of garments.
2) Find a Good Dry Cleaner
Not all dry cleaners are the same. Some are fine, some are terrible and some are fantastic. We highly reccommend Continental Cleaners on 9th South and 9th East. They, like other good dry cleaners, use environmental detergents, hand iron between buttons, change dressing pads and take the time and care for your clothing that our tailors do. Typically, local dry cleaners do a better job than the big chains.
Dry cleaning is a professional cleaning process that uses chemical solvents to clean delicate fabrics without the use of water. Here are some tips on how to properly dry clean your suits:
Choose a reputable cleaner: Look for a reputable dry cleaner that has experience in cleaning suits. Check reviews and ask for recommendations from friends or family.
Check for stains: Before sending your suit for dry cleaning, inspect it for any stains. Point out any stains to the cleaner so they can take special care to remove them.
Remove all items: Before taking your suit to the cleaner, remove all items from the pockets and unbutton the jacket. This will help the cleaner to clean the suit more thoroughly.
Instruct the cleaner: Give specific instructions to the cleaner regarding the type of cleaning required and any areas of the suit that require special attention. For example, you may want to request that they avoid using any harsh chemicals or solvents that may damage the fabric.
Inspect the suit: When you receive your suit back from the cleaner, inspect it carefully to ensure it has been cleaned properly. Check for any remaining stains, loose buttons or threads, or any other damage.
Store the suit properly: After dry cleaning, hang your suit on a sturdy hanger and store it in a breathable garment bag to protect it from dust, moisture, and insects.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your suit is properly cleaned and maintained to preserve its shape, color, and durability.
Care for your 5 pockets & Tom Nox Traveler Pants
Five-pocket slacks are a type of pants that have five pockets - two on the back, two on the front, and one coin pocket. Here are some tips on how to care for your five-pocket slacks:
Read the care label: Always read the care label on the pants before washing. The label will provide specific instructions on how to care for the pants. The bulk of the 5 pockets we sell are machine washable - but double check first just to make sure.
Machine wash: Five-pocket slacks are made of durable fabrics and can be machine washed. However, check the care label to ensure that the pants can be machine washed and at what temperature.
Wash with similar colors: Wash your pants with similar colors to prevent color bleeding and fading. Separate whites, darks, and brights.
Use a gentle detergent: Use a mild detergent that is suitable for delicate fabrics. Avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, as they can damage the fabric and affect the color.
Use cold water: Use cold water to wash the pants. Hot water can cause shrinkage and damage the fabric.
Hang dry: Hanging your 5 pockets will ensure longer life and that they won’t shrink. Wrinkles should fall out, but if not, tumble dry on low for no longer than 10-15 minutes.
Iron on low heat: If needed, iron your pants on a low heat setting to remove any wrinkles. Avoid ironing directly over the pockets, as this can leave marks. You can always pop by the store and we can press them for you too.
Store properly: Hang your pants on a hanger or fold them neatly and store them in a drawer. Avoid leaving them on the floor or in a pile, as this can cause creases and wrinkles.
By following these tips, you can keep your five-pocket slacks looking new and sharp for longer.
Care for Your Leather Dress Shoes
Leather dress shoes are a classic and stylish addition to any wardrobe. Proper care is essential to keep them looking their best and to extend their lifespan. Here are some tips on how to care for leather dress shoes:
Clean regularly: Dirt and dust can build up on leather shoes, causing them to look dull and worn out. Use a soft-bristled brush or a damp cloth to gently remove any dirt and debris from the shoes.
Condition the leather: Leather shoes can become dry and brittle over time, causing them to crack and lose their shape. Use a leather conditioner to keep the leather supple and moisturized.
Polish the shoes: Regular polishing can help to maintain the shine and color of leather shoes. Use a high-quality shoe polish that matches the color of your shoes and apply it with a soft cloth in a circular motion.
Protect the shoes: Leather shoes are vulnerable to water and stains. Apply a water-resistant spray or a protective coating to the shoes to help prevent damage from water and stains.
Allow the shoes to dry naturally: If your leather shoes get wet, allow them to dry naturally at room temperature. Avoid using heat sources like a hairdryer or radiator, as they can damage the leather.
Use a Shoe Tree: You can also use a shoe tree to help maintain shape and pull moisture from your shoe.
Store the shoes properly: When not in use, store your leather shoes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Use shoe trees to help maintain their shape and prevent creasing.

Wear Rubber Soles: When the weather is bad - rainy or snowy, wear rubber sole dress shoes to both save the bottom of your shoes and add traction. Snowy sidewalks generally have salt which isn’t great for leather soles or uppers. When possible, brush off your shoes if they come in contact with salt.
By following these tips, you can keep your leather dress shoes looking great and extend their lifespan.
Care for Your Ties
Handmade silk ties are a luxury item that require proper care to maintain their beauty and longevity. Here are some cleaning instructions to keep in mind when caring for your 100% silk, handmade ties:
Spot clean: If you get a small stain on your tie, spot clean it immediately with a damp cloth. Do not rub the stain, as this can cause it to spread. Instead, blot the stain gently.
Avoid water: Silk is a delicate fabric that can be easily damaged by water. Avoid getting your tie wet, and do not attempt to wash it with water.
Dry clean only: The safest way to clean your silk tie is to take it to a professional dry cleaner. Look for a dry cleaner that has experience in cleaning silk fabrics, and make sure to inform them that your tie is handmade.
Do not iron: If your tie becomes wrinkled, you can steam them out. However, this is most easily accomplished in a tailor shop with specialty steam irons. Please feel free to pop by at any time and we’ll steam out your ties.
Store properly: Store your tie on a tie rack or hanger to prevent wrinkles and creases. Avoid folding the tie, as this can damage the delicate silk fibers. For short term storage, you can roll your ties to prevent wrinkles.
Avoid long-term exposure to sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause the colors of your tie to fade. Store your tie in a dark, cool place to prevent fading.
By following these instructions, you can keep your 100% silk, handmade ties looking their best for years to come.
