Guide To The Perfect Tee

The T-shirt isn’t ideally what you imagine when you hear the term “Men’s Fashion”. Some may assume that a t-shirt is far inferior than any other garment. It may surprise you however to know that almost every clothing company carries some sort of a t-shirt. Whether that shirt is $5.99 or $599 is of less importance than the fact that they exist-everywhere. It’s an article of clothing that is simple yet elaborate. It’s the perfect neutral piece that can complete any outfit.

T-shirts were an original undergarment worn only by men. They had long bodies so that they wouldn’t come untucked from your trousers. In the early 20th century the t-shirt evolved for the U.S. and British Navies to wear on deck while at sea. The t-shirt really boomed after World War II. Soldiers returning home from war were accustomed to wearing their t-shirts and marketers targeted the new look. The t-shirt transformed from a simple article of clothing to personal expression of all kinds. Expressed largely in the music industry with bands such as AC/DC and Led Zeppelin to name a few.

Due to so many companies offering “high-quality” t-shirts, it’s normal to be overwhelmed and discouraged when purchasing another shirt that fails to deliver. It’s difficult to find a well-made t-shirt with the qualities that you have been looking for. We get it! That is why here at UWM we have taken it personally to find the perfect t-shirt. There are a few things to be aware of before purchasing a t-shirt to feel confident that you’re buying quality.

The first is obviously fit. This has some flexibility because everyone has different preferences. Some guys like their shirts very fitted and others prefer some breathing room. Despite the body style, it’s very important that the shoulders fit well. The seam of the shoulder is supposed to lay on your natural shoulder. If you’re looking for a slightly bigger more relaxed fit, then the seam should slightly overhang the natural shoulder.

Sleeve length has differed over the years. Currently t-shirts offer a variety of looks. Some sleeves reach as far as the elbow. While others barely cover the shoulder. A modest in-between would have the end of the sleeve rest half-way down the bicep. Having the sleeve slightly above the mid-bicep generally makes the wearer have a more masculine appearance.

The last two things that a wearer should consider are both of personal preferences. One being the drape of the body of the shirt. The drape can either be a tapered look or a more contemporary look. Most men prefer something in-between. The t-shirts that we carry here at UWM Men’s Shop are extremely comfortable and offer a beautiful shape. They also have a nice stretch to them which allows the shirt to always bounce back to its original shape. The other personal preference to consider is color. This is where an individual can really show off who they are. Colors not only add character, but they also add various possibilities of outfits that can be made around the t-shirt.

We carry a variety of t-shirts here at UWM. Our Tom Nox shirt is a cotton-polyester blend priced at $49. This is a great everyday t-shirt that you can wear anywhere. Our Ettura tees are a cotton-elastane blend that come with a slightly slimmer collar (neckline). These t-shirts are very soft and flexible. The Ettura tee is a great option for a night out or to put under a sport coat. Finally, we have our Italian made Givocci t-shirt. These are available in a 100% silk and 100% linen. The silk priced at $495 and the linen at $395. The possibilities are endless on how to wear these two Italian tees. You’ve got to make it in to see these t-shirts for yourself!
